As I wrote yesterday “about 24 hours, or less.” It was a political certainty and Mr. Giambrone has taken the only path available to him. Enough said.
Now we all owe Mr. Giambrone the respect and privacy he deserves.
Like Tiger, Mr. Giambrone has some soul searching to do but not until the full impact of this ordeal has hit him. It hasn’t yet. That will come when the camera lights go out, media attention and the blogosphere refocuses elsewhere, and he finds himself thinking private thoughts in the wee hours of the morning.
That process may or may not involve Ms. McQuarrie in tow. I suspect it wont. But that too, like Tiger and Elin, is a private decision none of us has the right to invade or judge.
Mr. Giambrone, while I have never met the man, is obviously an intelligent and ambitious young public figure. Mr. Giambrone is not the first, nor the last, individual whose actions can be explained by the role of the hidden brain.
Say what you wish, but the TTC is a world class organization that is not without its positive markings from Mr. Giambrone’s contributions and influence. With time, he will reincarnate.
Time now to put yet another divergent, and unfortunate, story to rest.
Wow! That was quick, and I was proven wrong, wrong, wrong. It’s OK Dan, you can say ‘Told you so’ now.
He was a long shot, and I guess this was the tipping point, as clearly the ‘left’ wasn’t going to coalesce around him.
Now let’s see what the right wing comes up with, ’cause they’re in a lot more trouble with this announcement than anybody else.
I am not the sort of person to say ‘told you so.’ Having said that…
Frankly, this was easy pickings almost as easy as it was telling Eliz she wasn’t gonna win Central Nova and isn’t going to win SGI either. But then again winning a seat is not EM’s objective. At least Giambrone wanted to win and he understands the value that having a seat has in accomplishing ones stated objectives. Unlike some who purport to have an objective, e.g. the current leader of the Green Party, but who go about doing everything except what’s needed to achieve the objective. In fact, some wanna-be politicians very systematically go about strategically placing their own roadblocks. Done on purpose, or not, is another discussion for another day.
Ha HA, waving a red flag at me are you? God knows, I’ve written, and said enough about Central Nova, and SGI. Fact is, the GPC lost all their strategic thinkers to the GPO years ago. With the notable exception of Jim Harris, who’s weaknesses were played to by the current administration, instead of his strengths.
Actually, the SGI thing wasn’t really a strategic decision, not as you or I would understand it. It was just a terribly, terribly flawed tactical error. How the hell do you go about winning that riding for Liz? Esp. if she isn’t prepared for three tea parties per day, at some quaint little retirement village or other.
Say Dan, do you know anybody with enough balls to take on Lizzie toe to toe this summer? She’s way more vulnerable than would appear on the face of it….
Identifying and persuading the person I know who can win against EM is easy. Could do that in my sleep and with a single phone call. The more difficult challenge is getting the left-of-centre parties to finally acknowledge, accept, and fully commit to the only logical strategy that puts an end to the role each of them plays in vote-splitting. Anything else, including but not limited to keeping or replacing Eliz, further propping up Iggy, or comforting Jack through his own latest health issues, and/or a half-baked coalition, is akin pissing in the wind and has as much chance of success at Adam Giambrone had less than 24 hours ago. The left-of-centre parties either want Mr. Harper out of government or they don’t. Anything else is just noise and ulterior motive.
I guess there`s a big question of logical vs. viable strategy. The logical response to vote splitting is either electoral reform, (dumping FPTP) or dissolution of one or more Party`s. The problem is that neither of these is viable. I don`t see the genie getting back into the bottle, with a nice inclusive Liberal Big Tent either.
A 4 way negotiation of who gets which seat is logical, but not viable. Maybe you could be more explicit via email.
